Shoreditch Is
Being Overwritten

Caught in a rain shower in Shoreditch today.

I liked this view because it looks like three versions of the neighbourhood occupying the same space.

Graffiti and gig posters at street level.

The shell of an older building in the middle.

Glass towers rising behind it.

Cities have always changed. But there's something strange about watching one identity disappear while its aesthetic survives.

The graffiti, music, warehouses and rough edges helped make Shoreditch desirable.

Then desirability made the warehouses and rough edges valuable enough to replace.

The culture becomes the marketing for the thing that replaces it.
